March 29, 2024 (EIRNS)—The research group Forensic Architecture has released a report on the effects of Israel’s bombardment and invasion of Gaza on the area’s agricultural land and related infrastructure. The group calls the destruction “a widespread and deliberate act of ecocide” that is “part of a wider pattern of deliberately depriving Palestinians of critical resources for survival.”

By comparing satellite imagery from before the invasion and afterwards, Forensic Architecture calculates that 40% of land in Gaza that was previously used for the production of food has been destroyed by Israeli actions, including nearly a third of the Gaza Strip’s greenhouses.

“In total, Forensic Architecture has identified more than 2,000 agricultural sites, including farms and greenhouses, which have been destroyed since October 2023, often to be replaced with Israeli military earthworks,” the report says. “This destruction has been most intense in the northern part of Gaza, where 90% of greenhouses were destroyed in the early stages of the ground invasion.”
