March 8, 2024 (EIRNS)—The U.S. Embassy in Moscow on March 7 warned Americans that there are “reports” indicating a danger of extremists attacking large gatherings in Moscow in the next 48 hours, and that Americans should stay away. The Embassy statement said Americans should stay vigilant and “monitor local media for updates.” The security alert posted on their website said that the Embassy was “monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow.”

It is not clear why the warning was issued, although the Russian Security Services (FSB) recently foiled a planned attack by an ISIS-linked group on a Moscow synagogue. The group was carrying out reconnaissance when they were discovered and a shoot-out occurred and the terrorists were killed. According to the FSB report, “During an operation to detain them, the terrorists put up armed resistance to Russian FSB agents and as a result were neutralized by return fire,” reported UPI.
