March 25, 2024 (EIRNS)—UN Secretary-General António Guterres traveled to the Egyptian-Gaza border on March 23 to call attention to the line of 7,000 trucks with humanitarian aid, awaiting inspection by the Israelis at the border with Rafah. “Here from this crossing, we see the heartbreak and heartlessness … a long line of blocked relief trucks on one side of the gates, the long shadow of starvation on the other.”
Prior to the UN vote today, Guterres called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, while urging countries to “truly flood Gaza with lifesaving aid.… Any further onslaught will make things even worse—worse for Palestinian civilians, worse for hostages, and worse for all people in the region.” He denounced the starvation in Gaza as a “moral outrage.”
