March 5, 2024 (EIRNS)—The U.S. is continuing provocations to China. In the latest such incident, the U.S. 7th Fleet announced today the south-to-north transit of the Taiwan Strait of the guided missile destroyer USS John Finn. “The transit occurred through a corridor in the Taiwan Strait that is beyond any coastal state’s territorial seas,” the 7th Fleet statement said. “Within this corridor all nations enjoy high-seas freedoms of navigation, overflight, and other internationally lawful uses of the sea related to these freedoms.”

Army Senior Colonel Shi Yi, spokesperson for the Chinese PLA Eastern Theater Command, slammed such a provocative move in a written statement released. “The Chinese PLA Eastern Theater Command organized air and naval forces to track and monitor the U.S. destroyer in the whole course, and handled the situation according to laws and regulations,” he said, adding that the troops of the PLA Eastern Theater Command will always stay on high alert and stand ready to respond to all threats and provocations.
