April 4, 2024 (EIRNS)—The 22-nation Arab League met yesterday in Cairo and declared, as al-Arabiya put it, that “invading Rafah will lead to the collapse of chances for peace and the expansion of the conflict.” It would be considered an attack on pan-Arab national security.
Palestine had called for the meeting to deal with the “genocide and policies of starvation,” along with Israel’s refusal to abide by the UN Security Resolution for an immediate ceasefire. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushed matters along with his March 31 announcement that had approved an “operational plan” to invade Rafah, claiming that “there is no victory without entering Rafah and there is no victory without eliminating the Hamas battalions there.”
