April 17, 2024 (EIRNS)—In a speech at the EU Commission’s High-Level Conference on the European Pillar of Social Rights in La Hulpe, Belgium on April 16, former ECB President and former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi called on the EU to adapt to the new post-Ukraine war, post-Gaza, post-every mess they themselves have created, by adopting measures that allow the EU to become a bloc powerful enough to conduct trade war against the EU, China, Russia and the U.S.

Draghi is campaigning to succeed Ursula von der Leyen as next EU Commission president. He is preparing a report on competitiveness (trade war) which he is supposed to present at the end of June, exactly in between the June 6-9 elections for the European Parliament and the first session of the newly elected Parliament, which is supposed to elect the new EU Commission in the third week of July.
