April 17, 2024 (EIRNS)—Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on April 16 with Director of Russian Foreign Intelligence Sergei Naryshkin for discussions on Middle East crisis. The head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service Maj. Gen. Abbas Kamel also attended. They reviewed Egypt’s efforts to calm the regional escalation through diplomatic engagement with all parties. Both sides affirmed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unfettered flow of humanitarian aid and relief, according to a statement by the Egyptian Presidency.
