April 30, 2024 (EIRNS)—Prosecutors from the International Criminal Court have interviewed staff from Gaza’s two biggest hospitals, two sources told Reuters, the first confirmation that ICC investigators were speaking to medics about possible crimes in the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported today. The sources reported that ICC investigators had taken testimony from staff who had worked at Al Shifa Hospital, the main hospital in Gaza City in the north, and Nasser Hospital, the main hospital in Khan Younis in the south.
The questions appear to encompass all aspects of crime, including, the Israelis targetting of these two major hospitals. Hospitals are protected during wartime by international treaties, which can make attacks on them crimes against humanity under the ICC. Violators can be tried for crimes against humanity under ICC rules.
