Hawaii Becomes First U.S. State To Officially Call for Gaza Ceasefire

April 29, 2024 (EIRNS)—By a vote of 24-1, in the Hawaii State Senate and a vote of 48-3 in the State House of Representatives, the legislature passed bill SCR13 over the weekend to call on the U.S. President to demand an “immediate and permanent ceasefire” in Gaza, and that “members of Hawaii’s congressional delegation are urged to support the Ceasefire Now Resolution” introduced by U.S. Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO). Local activists spent weeks meeting with elected officials at all levels to force through this legislation. In the words of one activist, “Hawaii can be proud of its leadership role to force an immediate, permanent ceasefire in Gaza.”
