April 22, 2024 (EIRNS)—Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made an official visit to Iraq on April 22 , his first since 2011. He held talks with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, and Prime Minister Muhammad Shiya al-Sudani, which center on security, bilateral relations and economic cooperation. According to Erdogan’s office, the leaders discussed relations between Türkiye and Iraq, and Israel’s assaults on Gaza, as well as various regional and global matters.

On the agenda is the signing of a “strategic framework” agreement, encompassing security, energy, trade, water management, transportation and health. In addition, another 20 agreements are expected to be signed by cabinet members from both nations.
