UN Human Rights Council Votes Up Resolution for Arms Embargo on Israel

April 6, 2024 (EIRNS)—The UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on April 5 voted up a resolution for the suspension of arms sales to Israel. The resolution, which was approved by a vote of 28-6 with 13 abstentions called on countries to “cease the sale, transfer and diversion of arms, munitions and other military equipment to Israel ... to prevent further violations of international humanitarian law and violations and abuses of human rights,” reported Middle East Eye, and international media.

The resolution also urges UN war crimes investigators to look into all “direct and indirect transfer or sale of arms, munitions, parts, components and dual use items to Israel” and to analyze the “legal consequences of these transfers.”
