U.S. Representative Greene Pressures Speaker Johnson on Ukraine Funding

April 9, 2024 (EIRNS)—Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) issued a “Dear Colleague” letter today, criticizing House Speaker Mike Johnson for describing the funding of the Ukraine war as a priority. “The American people disagree—they believe our border is the only border worth fighting over, and I agree with them.” She stated: “If these actions by the leader of our conference continue, then we are not a Republican Party—we are a uniparty that is hellbent on remaining on the path of self-inflicted destruction.”

However, she declined to commit to activating her motion to push Johnson out of his position. She had filed a motion to vacate his position back on March 22. Once she activates it, the House has two business days before a vote is forced. Today she stated: “I don’t have a deadline or a red line or a certain trigger” on forcing the issue.

Johnson, along with other Republicans, have mooted the addition of some amount of funding for border control, in an effort to bring anti-Ukraine war Republicans to vote for continued funding.
