April 4, 2024 (EIRNS)—It could indeed be the case that the US had no advance knowledge that Israel was going to bomb the Iranian consulate in Damascus, but, as The Associated Press pointed out yesterday, the United States is closely tied to Israel’s military, regardless. The US provides 70 percent of Israel’s military hardware and 15 percent of its military budget. That includes providing the kind of advanced aircraft and munitions that appear to have been employed in the attack, AP notes.
As has already been reported, Iran is holding the US responsible for the attack. In Tehran, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, military advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, promised that Israel will face punishment for the crime of assassinating Iranian commanders in Syria, reported IRNA. Safavi issued a statement yesterday, saying that the punishment of the Israeli regime will be inevitable and definite, causing it to regret its terrorist act.
