The multiple hits from Ukraine—supported by Western logistics—into Russia in recent days, targeting its nuclear anti-missile radar infrastructure, have escalated the world to an extreme point of danger of nuclear war. These drone attacks, targeted at points in Krasnodar Krai and Orenburg, cross the red line on what Russia considers an existential threat, which was spelled out definitively in writing in 2020 by the government of Russia, exactly for the purposes of preventing such violations, and preventing world war (“Basic Principles of State Policy of the Russian Federation on Nuclear Deterrence,” June 2, 2020).

It is vital for the world to know this. It is also vital to know that there is a dynamic towards reason and peace, gathering force. But a critical part of what makes the danger so extreme, is the attempted blackout of what is happening.

Therefore, on May 25, the Schiller Institute issued an international release, “Red Alert: Ukrainian Strike on Russian Early Warning Radar Threatens To Unleash Nuclear World War,”

circulated through many networks, in particular through the eir.news platform, and through Humanity for Peace activists, collaborating with the International Peace Coalition, formed exactly one year ago this week. EIR.news is reporting the analysis and warnings by many international weapons and strategy experts.

So far in the major Western media, attention has broken through only last night, in the Washington Post, in its back-handed article headlined, “U.S. Concerned about Ukraine Strike on Russian Nuclear Radar Stations.”

Citing the usual “unnamed” sources, the article reports, “Washington has conveyed its concerns to Kyiv about two attempted attacks over the last week against radar stations that provide conventional air defense as well as warning of nuclear launches by the West….” [emphasis added]

At the same time, the Washington Post, and all outlets in the major media wing of the military- financial complex, have been cheerleading for the White House to approve Ukraine using U.S.-supplied weapons to strike inside Russia, which, heretofore, President Biden had nominally opposed.

This afternoon, the news broke that Biden has approved Ukraine’s use of U.S.-supplied weapons to strike inside Russia. Politico reported it first citing unnamed officials; then, for example, CNN gave this account, that “‘The President recently directed his team to ensure that Ukraine is able to use U.S. supplied-weapons for counterfire purposes in Kharkiv so Ukraine can hit back at Russian forces hitting them or preparing to hit them,’ one of the officials said.” But, not to worry, reports CNN, going on to say: “But it is limited to the area around Kharkiv, and Ukraine has not requested permission beyond that … [and] they do not anticipate the U.S. widening the area allowed.” This is more of the madness.

In contrast, warnings on the nuclear war danger are being sounded increasingly among expert circles and in the alt-media. For example, Pressenza International Press Agency, a multi-language news agency, today posted the Schiller Institute’s release, “RED ALERT: Ukrainian Strike on Russian Early Warning Radar Threatens To Unleash Nuclear World War.”

The world dynamic for peace also includes mobilizing to stop the genocide in Gaza, and creating conditions for maximum humanitarian aid, and for a future based on full development for full security. The situation in Gaza is indescribable. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are not only continuing raids and shelling on Rafah, but also Israel yesterday took over sole control of the 14-km Philadelphi Corridor on the Egypt-Gaza border, which gives Israel control of every inch of Gaza’s border, and trashes any pretense of relations with Egypt.

The latest initiatives against this come from China, in collaboration with Egypt and the Arab League. China hosted the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) in Beijing on May 29-30, as well as receiving state visits from the heads of state of Egypt, Bahrain, Tunisia, and the U.A.E. President Xi Jinping, in his keynote address to the Forum today, called for a “broad-based” conference for peace in the Middle East. He stated: “China firmly supports the establishment of an independent State of Palestine that enjoys full sovereignty based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital. It supports Palestine’s full membership in the UN, and supports a more broad-based, authoritative and effective international peace conference.”

In the UN Security Council, these measures are being brought forward, showing and shaming the United States’ persisting opposition to them. Yesterday, Algeria, on behalf of the Arab Group, put forward a resolution in the UNSC for a ceasefire in Gaza and full-scale humanitarian aid. The U.A.E. envoy also announced that the Emirates would be filing a resolution soon.

It is notable that Egypt and the U.A.E. are fellow BRICS members with China, which also has been active this week with Brazil on an initiative for genuine Ukraine peace talks. The China-Brazil initiative overrides the pretense of talks lined up for June in Switzerland that bars Russia and is based on Zelenskyy’s so-called “peace” proposal.

In this fraught world context, one of the most important events this week to stop the countdown to Armageddon is the fact of filing for ballot status in New York by two powerful American anti-war spokesmen: Diane Sare for U.S. Senate and Jose Vega for the U.S. Congress, in the Bronx’ CD 15. As they themselves say in many ways: “Elect yourself! Take responsibility!”
