Correction: As mistakenly reported in the May 4 EIR Daily News, “Lucerne Cancels Netrebko Concert, Berlin Invites Her To Sing,” Anna Netrebko’s performance in Berlin at the Deutsche Oper with Macbeth did take place—in September of 2023. Amidst heavy pressure, the directorate of the Staatsoper Berlin then stuck to their guns, defending Netrebko from the smear campaign against her.
And now today, among protests by a Ukrainian group campaigning against her, Netrebko is performing at the Wiesbaden Staatstheater, as well as on May 8. Also there, the director sees no reason to disinvite her and praises her as a grand opera singer. She also performed last year there. In June and July 2024 she will perform Puccini’s Turandot at the Milano La Scala.
