Yesterday, 57 Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives sent a letter calling upon President Biden do everything possible to stop an Israeli invasion of Rafah, the last stop in Gaza for 1.4 million Palestinian refugees. Their call included the immediate withholding of “certain offensive military aid” to Israel.
Representatives Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Madeleine Dean (D-PA), along with 55 others, signed the letter, and Jayapal provided a summary statement, saying that they are calling on the Administration to use all tools possible to dissuade the Israeli government from moving forward with an offensive invasion into Rafah. “We write with urgency to say: an offensive invasion into Rafah by Israel in the upcoming days is wholly unacceptable.”
