In her press conference May 16, IMF Communications Director Julie Kozack was asked about discussion among Western nations regarding the seizure of frozen Russian assets. The questioner mentioned that U.S. legislation had been passed giving the President the authority to seize Russian assets without notifying Congress and wanted the IMF’s clarification as to whether it supports or opposes the idea to confiscate “or otherwise use Russian assets to support and to fuel funding to Ukraine?”
