Iran Releases Preliminary Report on President Raisi’s Helicopter Crash

According to a report in Türkiye’s Hurriyet Daily News, Iranian authorities have released a preliminary report on the death of President Ebrahim Raisi. The Iranian President died in a helicopter crash May 19-20 in the mountainous region of Iran that borders Azerbaijan. Investigators said that a fire broke out in the cabin after the crash landing, and all nine onboard were killed, including the President and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

So far, the investigation has not found anything suspicious. The report notes that the helicopter did not deviate from its route and continued its course before the crash. In addition, the pilot communicated with his counterparts of the other two helicopters one and a half minutes before the accident, ruling out certain other suspicions. The report further states that no traces of external objects such as bullets have been found on the wreckage of the helicopter, dismissing any claims of sabotage or assassination.
