On May 1, Josh Paul, former Director in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs at the U.S. State Department—until he left in disgust with the Biden administration’s weapons to Israel policies—wrote on his LinkedIn page, “I am absolutely horrified by the violence being unleashed by those in power against students around the country this evening, from the University of South Florida in the southeast to Columbia University in the north to The University of Texas at Austin in the southwest to California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) Humboldt in the west. It is an absolute abrogation of leadership by everyone, from the President, to governors, to mayors, to chiefs of police and to university administrators. This generation of youth have spent their entire lives in fear of having guns pointed at them in schools; what a disgrace for America that it is now their own schools that are pointing the guns at them.
“What starts as support for violations of human rights by another can only be continued by actions to violate the human rights of our own. It must stop, just as our lethal military support for Israel must stop.
“The approach being taken by administrations and police departments, and fueled by false allegations from the ADL and disgusting smears from the White House will not work.
“The pursuit of militarized solutions to political problems will not work in the cities of Gaza, and it will not work on the campuses of America.”
