UCLA and UC-Davis Faculty Will Strike on May 28

Academic workers represented by UAW Local 4811 at both UCLA and UC-Davis will strike on May 28, according to the Washington Post. This is part of the “rolling strikes'’ that started on May 20 at UC-Santa Cruz to protest the violent crackdown against peaceful students and faculty that took place at several campuses. The university system management has declared that the strikes are illegal and is seeking a court-ordered injunction to stop the work stoppage. The union has already filed necessary documents with the California Public Employment Relations Board detailing unfair labor practices, the illegal changes to free-speech policies and several other charges. The union is using its “stand-up strike” technique that was successful during its strike last year with the big three automakers.
