Britain Intervenes To Delay ICC War Crimes Arrest Warrant for Netanyahu

The International Criminal Court considers the matter to already have been decided in a ruling from February 2021, but the court has allowed Britain to bring up a new argument that would delay the arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, according to The Guardian. Legal experts have said that Israel has failed in attempts to use the same argument in the past and expect that the British claim will be “dead on arrival.”

The British are arguing that a clause of the 1993 Oslo Accords prevents a Palestinian from bringing a legal claim against an Israeli. However, that seems to fail on at least two counts. The ICC is not dependent upon a claim by any Palestinian. Additionally, the Israelis have long ago abandoned the Oslo Accords, as exemplified in their pursuit of illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
