Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov gave a press conference on June 5 in N’Djamena, Chad, after meetings with both President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno and Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah. According to RT, he said that economic relations between the two countries should reach the same high level as the two countries’ political, defense, security, and humanitarian ties. “Chadian friends will convey [to Russia] their wishes regarding the forms of interaction and sectors of their economy where they deem the presence of Russian economic operators useful.”
Lavrov singled out the experience of Russia’s companies in handling infrastructure projects. He noted that Russian Railways “operates in many African countries, preparing projects for the creation of railroads and associated infrastructure.” He looked forward to Chad’s embassy providing Moscow with ideas on projects aligned with Chad’s economic development and social needs.
