Sewage, Uncollected Waste, Mosquitos Spread Disease in Gaza

The report by the Middle East Eye on the spread of disease in Gaza is a reminder of the ongoing and deadly process afoot there. Mosquitos are spreading misery and disease. Sewage overflows are a regular occurrence. Uncollected solid waste has piled up. Human remains of around 10,000 or so are buried under mountains of debris for months now.

As a result, hepatitis A, meningitis, skin diseases (scabies, smallpox and lice) and food poisoning is spreading. The latter is as a result of the high volumes of solid waste polluting the soil and water resources. Further, contaminated water leads to gastroenteritis and dehydration, killing children.
