With the EU as friend, who needs enemies? On Thursday, EU governments agreed on the 14th package of sanctions against Russia. The package bans re-exports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) in EU waters. This, after figures were made known, that for the first time since the war in Ukraine, import of Russian gas in the EU was higher than LNG from the USA.

The European economy, with a 3% industrial contraction year on year (see June 20 briefing), is apparently in too good health for the Commission, and needs to be strangled more.
