University of California Has Court Injunction To Stop ‘Rolling Strikes’ by Academic Workers

Unionized academic workers of the University of California system represented by UAW local 4811 were twice successful at winning the right to have “rolling strikes” from the state Public Employees Relations Board. According to The Guardian the university management then searched for a favorable judge who would be willing to rule against the faculty. Orange County Judge Randall Sherman on June 7 ruled in effect that beating and arresting teachers was a “non-labor issue” and gave a temporary injunction to force the teachers back on the job. A hearing was set for June 27 to hear arguments on whether the injunction should be extended.
