U.S. Will Deliver Missiles Bought by Switzerland to Ukraine

The U.S. has delayed the scheduled delivery of long-range interceptor missiles to Switzerland in order to prioritize Ukraine’s military needs, the Swiss tabloid Blick reports.

Last fall, the Swiss ordered PAC-3 missiles for the U.S.-designed Patriot system, worth SFr300 million ($340 million). That deal is ominous, as the Swiss, if practicing strict neutrality, would not buy such weapons from a NATO state.

The affair has sparked a debate in Switzerland: The situation shows that “Switzerland needs an independent and robust defense industry again, and to diversify procurement among manufacturers and countries,” the military declared.
