A car belonging to a top officer of the Russian General Staff was blown up in the parking lot near his home north of Moscow. The driver of the car, a GRU officer, and his wife were wounded. The driver had his feet blown off. Nevertheless, he had the presence of mind to make a tourniquet of his shirt in order to stop the bleeding until help arrived.
The investigation was taken up by the First Directorate of Particularly Important Cases and was deemed an assassination attempt. The identity of the perpetrator is known. He had attached an explosive underneath the car, which he apparently detonated remotely when the passengers had entered the car. He fled immediately and got on a plane to Türkiye. Proceedings have been initiated to apprehend the perpetrator, and Turkish authorities are cooperating. The incident is presumed to be an assassination attempt related to the professional activities of the General Staff officer, to whom the car belonged.
