Several Chinese PLA Naval ships entered the Baltic Sea on July 20, on their way to Russia Navy Day celebrations in St. Petersburg. The Western press coverage notes that the Baltic Sea is considered a “NATO Sea” by NATO. The ships were identified as a Type 052D destroyer and a Type 903A logistics ship, accompanied by a Royal Danish naval patrol ship. The Chinese ships are part of an anti-piracy mission, usually deployed in the Red Sea.

The Chinese ships are described as “among the most modern units of the Chinese Navy,” with modern radar systems and electronic warfare capacities, as well as surface to air and surface to surface missiles, according to “Redacción,” (Editorial) part of the Spanish publication Zona Militar.
