One month after Industry and Green Transition Minister Robert Habeck’s visit to China, the German government has announced a ban on components from Huawei and ZTE in 5G mobile networks. “The critical components may no longer be used in the core network by the end of 2026 at the latest,” explained Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, adding that in transport networks the management systems must be replaced by the end of 2029 at the latest. “For the citizens, this means more security,” Faeser said.
A spokesperson from the Chinese Embassy in Berlin said that the move will seriously undermine the mutual trust between the two sides and will also affect the future cooperation between China and the EU in the relevant fields, revealed the Global TimesGlobal Times.
