Hungary Challenges NATO's Transformation into an Anti-China Bloc

Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, at the NATO summit in Washington, according to the Budapest Times, said that, while it was “fine” if NATO focused on cooperation in the Indian Ocean region, it could be only as long as it was not “directed against someone.”

He explained that Hungary would not support “anyone pushing NATO’s Indo-Pacific relations in the direction of NATO becoming an anti-China bloc. That would be a massive tragedy.” Already, sanctions and blockades have been harming Hungary’s interests, “so we don’t want NATO to be an alliance against anyone… We cannot become an aggressor alliance” and form “an anti-China bloc.”
