The cover of The Economist’s latest edition pictures a walker with the U.S. President’s seal attached to the front of it. The headline on the accompanying article is: “Why Biden Must Withdraw.” The date on the cover is July 6th, but the announcement of its contents was sent out to subscribers on July 4th, with a message from Editor-in-Chief Zanny Minton Beddoes bluntly reminding Americans that “democracy only goes so far,” and that neither Biden nor Trump is acceptable as candidates for the British Monarchy and its City of London financial oligarchy. She quotes this passage from the editorial: “The virtue of democracy is that voters can choose who governs them, but Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump offer a choice between the incapable and the unspeakable. America’s renewal needs to start now.”
The Economist had published a list on June 29 of 10 Democratic Party figures who would be acceptable to London. They wince at Kamala Harris, but say that she would do in a pinch. Now comes this editorial, making clear that when London says “jump,” it expects Americans to do as they’re told.
