Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a guided tour today by Russian President Vladimir Putin of the Atom Exhibition Pavilion at the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (VDNKh) in Moscow, a part of their two days’ meetings. Simultaneously, Russia discussed building more nuclear power plants in India.
The Kremlin website reported: “At the Modern Nuclear Industry exhibition, the President of Russia and the Prime Minister of India explored interactive displays highlighting Russian-Indian cooperation in atomic energy. In the section on non-energy applications of nuclear technologies, Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi were shown the potential of water desalination, irradiation of seeds and food products to enhance their quality, transportation of goods from India to Europe and Russia via the Northern Sea Route, and a floating nuclear power plant.
“Additionally, a video presentation covered the construction of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant [in Tamil Nadu], training of personnel for India’s nuclear program, and the supply of isotopes for India’s lunar program and medical applications. The tour concluded with a visit to the Atomarium exhibition, after which Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi had a brief conversation with Russian and Indian students.”
A photograph shows Putin pointing out to Modi information on one of the maps of the exhibits. The Atom Pavilion is an educational complex featuring an exhibition on the evolution of nuclear energy, its latest advancements, and the technologies for harnessing atomic energy, located in the Exhibition of National Economy (VDNKh). The latter is a collection of pavilions, some pavilions named after, and with exhibits from, countries such as Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine, and others, such as the self-explanatory Atom Pavilion, the Agricultural Pavilion, and the Cosmos Pavilion, all gathered in a wooded park, with many beautiful gardens and water fountains.
