NATO announced yesterday the establishment of the NATO Representation of Ukraine (NRU) to be headed by a British national, Patrick Turner. He previously served as NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations and as Assistant Secretary General for Defense Policy and Planning, as well as serving in a range of senior civil service positions for the United Kingdom. Turner, who will assume his responsibilities in Kyiv on Sept. 1, “will head the NRU and act as a focal point for NATO’s engagement with the Ukrainian authorities in Kyiv. He will coordinate NATO’s efforts and provide the Alliance with assessments and advice on the situation in Ukraine,” NATO said in a statement.
