According to the Washington Post, Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) is gathering a group of congressional leaders to accompany him on Monday, July 8 to the White House and request that President Biden end his reelection effort. There is fear that Biden has been kept isolated and that close advisors are not conveying to the President the stark reality of his lack of support.
Some see this effort by Senator Warner as similar to an effort in August, 1974 of three congressional Republicans who convinced President Richard Nixon to resign. While Senator Warner has had some disagreements with President Biden over the years, he is seen as Biden’s ally in the Senate, the one whom the President has relied upon to pass legislation, including Biden’s 2021 Infrastructure Bill.
