Army Chiefs of Niger and Nigeria Meet To Build Security Cooperation

Chief of Staff of the Army of Niger General Moussa Salaou Barmou and Chief of Staff of the Army of Nigeria General Christopher Musa met in Niamey on August 29 to hammer out a cooperation agreement to secure their 1,500 km border, which has been plagued by arms and drugs smuggling and terrorism.

This is a highly significant step in rapprochement between Niger and Nigeria, since the latter was highly critical of the military takeover in Niger last year and had been calling for a military intervention, which, of course, never occurred.
