China and India concluded a successful session of talks yesterday on their border issues to de-escalate border tensions. “The two sides agreed to strengthen dialogue and consultation, accommodate each other’s legitimate concerns, and reach a mutually acceptable solution at an early date,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement said after the meeting. This was also emphasized by the Indian Foreign Ministry, which noted that both had agreed to intensify diplomatic and military contacts, in order “to narrow down differences and find early resolution of the outstanding issues,” given that respect for the Line of Actual Control is “the essential basis for the restoration of normalcy in bilateral relations.”
