Whereas some may consider China’s energy policy as opportunistic on “renewables,” it is certainly not dumb. Answering a reporter who asked when China will reach peak emission (i.e. when it is going to show reduction in CO2 emission), Song Wen, head of law and institutional reform at the National Energy Administration, said: “We should not forget that China is still a developing country, pursuing modernization for a huge population.… Great efforts are still needed to achieve the goals of peak carbon and carbon neutrality.”
In reporting the exchange, Bloomberg noticed that energy output from fossil sources has decreased in China last year, because of the increase of “renewables” sources.
