A number of NATO hardliners are endorsing the Ukrainian attack in the Kursk region, essentially cheering it on. The new chairman Marcus Faber of the German Bundestag Defense Committee told Der Spiegel in an interview yesterday: “With its war of aggression against Ukraine, Russia has turned its own territory into a war zone. Ukraine’s relief attack is therefore completely legitimate.” He added: “Any success by Ukraine is a good argument for the Kremlin to order the invading troops to go home.” Faber took over the chairmanship of the Defense Committee after his fellow Free Democrat (founded by Hjalmar Schacht) and leading German warmonger Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann became a Member of the EU Parliament after the June elections this year.
The German Foreign Ministry also approved of the Ukrainian operation. In a statement given to Politico Aug. 9, they said that “Ukraine has the right to self-defense enshrined in international law,” adding that the principle of self-defense “is not limited to its own territory.” And the use of German weapons for an offensive into Russian territory is not a problem, claimed Roderich Kiesewetter, a senior Christian Democratic lawmaker. “The question of whether Western weapons are involved doesn’t come up because, after they are delivered, they are Ukrainian weapons,” Kiesewetter, told Politico.
