India and China held border talks on July 31, as reported by India Today, only days after a discussion on the sidelines of the ASEAN foreign ministerial in Vientiane, Laos, between India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese Foreign MInister Wang Yi. It was the 30th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs in New Delhi. The official joint statement described these talks over their border standoff as “constructive” and “forward-looking.” The border has been a sore point for relations between the two countries, occasionally breaking out in fighting.
