Protesters waving Russian flags are appearing at the demonstrations in Nigeria since August 1. While Russian flag wavers are a common sight at demonstrations in neighboring Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali, it is illegal to wave foreign flags at public demonstrations in Nigeria. More than 90 Nigerian such Russian flag wavers were arrested, including several tailors for making the flags, during the protest rallies.
Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff General Christopher Musa cautioned that it is a “treasonable offense” to fly the flags of foreign countries, reported TASS.
