After having survived a near-assassination attempt only three months ago, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico appeared at a large rally in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia on Thursday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Slovak National Uprising. Fico said that the National Uprising was “an uprising that ended the era of smallness of the Slovak nation and passivity,” and that therefore “We have the right to demand peace,” according a machine translation of his remarks from sita.sk.
The Prime Minister then described how the post World War II order is disintegrating: “Yes, we can say that several decades after the end of the Second World War, international relations functioned within a certain space that these very wise and capable leaders set up… The international order has turned into a cruel duel without any rules. The red lines that were set during the Cold War are being crossed.” Fico also made a strong warning about the threat of a global confrontation and nuclear war.
