Donald Trump has charged that Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race was really a coup against him by the Democrats. “They [the Democrats] staged a coup against the President of the United States. They went to him and told him: `you are leaving. You are way down in the polls,’” he said. This was “a coup, the first one of the Presidents of the United States.” As reported by Newsmax, Trump told reporters on a briefing call yesterday that there’s no love lost between Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama and that he believed reports that Obama had threatened Biden with the 25th Amendment if he didn’t step down.
According to Newsmax, investigative reporter Seymour Hersh revealed in his July 27 Substack column that Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were deeply involved in getting Biden to leave the presidential race. As Politico wrote, Nancy Pelosi had allegedly told the White House that “you can either choose the easy way or the hard way.” An unnamed source quoted by Hersh declared that Obama told Biden that “we have Kamala’s approval to invoke the 25th Amendment.”
