Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Güler hosted Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov in Ankara on Aug. 2, greeting him with a military ceremony, according to a statement by the Turkish National Defense Ministry, reported Hürriyet Daily News. Afterwards they traveled to Istanbul to preside over the launching of the second of two corvettes built in Türkiye for the Ukrainian navy.
The Ukrainian presidency said the corvettes would help protect the country’s interests in the Black Sea and the Azov Sea (to which the Ukrainian navy has no access) “but also, in particular, in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.”
