U.S. Imposes New Sanctions on China, Other Countries for Alleged Support of Russian War in Ukraine

The Biden Administration, in yet another desperate attempt to show that it can impose its will on the world, announced a new, reportedly long, list of sanctions on Russian and Chinese companies it alleges are fueling Russia’s war on Ukraine. The sanctions list, targeting nearly 400 entities and individuals, is among the most sweeping actions taken yet against Chinese companies for their support in the war against Ukraine, reported The Hill. Also hit with sanctions are companies from the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, Hong Kong, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

“We remain concerned by the magnitude of dual-use goods exports from the P.R.C. to Russia,” the State Department said in an August 24 release. “Imports from the P.R.C. are filling critical gaps in Russia’s defense production cycle, thereby enabling it to produce weapons, ramp up defense production, and bolster its military-industrial base.”

The sanctions come as White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will travel to Beijing next week to meet with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The two are expected to discuss the war in Ukraine.
