Imagery has appeared on social media, and is being widely circulated on Russian Telegram channels, of Ukrainian soldiers harassing an elderly Russian man on a road outside of Sudzha in the Kursk region, with one of the soldiers wearing a World War II Wehrmacht helmet. Clearly emblazoned on the helmet is the Nazi SS double lightning bolt insignia. The invaders reportedly mocked the elderly man in German, calling him a “Russisch Schwein.”
The Ukrainian wearing the helmet has been identified as Vasily Daniilyuk, 38, from the town of Horodenka in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. A reward of 5 million rubles has reportedly been announced for his capture and that of another militant.
The Main Military Investigation Directorate of Russia’s Investigative Committee announced today that it has opened a case over heroization of Nazism and the disappearance of a resident of the Kursk Region. The elderly man has been out of contact with his family since Aug. 6 and the Ukrainian soldiers who harassed him are now suspected of having murdered him.
