President Volodymyr Zelenskyy honored 11 “outstanding individuals” on August 22 with the new National Legend of Ukraine state award, granted to Ukrainians and foreigners who have made a contribution to the establishment of independent Ukraine and to the country’s defense. The only foreigner so honored was Howard Buffett, the first son of billionaire Warren Buffet. Howard Buffett has been to Ukraine over a dozen times, billing himself as just a down-home American farmer standing alongside beleaguered Ukrainian farmers.

Howard Buffett, a hardcore environmentalist and proponent of biodiversity, is said to be the largest private donor to Ukraine. Zelenskyy declared: “This is respect. This is an honor. This is dignity. It is how the state of Ukraine says thank you to its people, its heroes, its legends.”
