European Carmakers Tell the EU, Take That Rope Off Our Neck

Better late than never, one could say. The European Association of Automakers (ACEA) urged a review of emission targets now, to avoid an industrial suicide. But the horse might have already bolted.

In a press release, ACEA calls for reviewing the targets now instead of waiting until 2026, as the new stringent CO2 rules come into force beginning in 2025.

Sales of electric vehicles continue to decline in Europe, while conditions for transition are not there: “Charging and hydrogen refueling infrastructure, as well as a competitive manufacturing environment, affordable green energy, purchase and tax incentives, and a secure supply of raw materials, hydrogen and batteries. Economic growth, consumer acceptance, and trust in infrastructure have not developed sufficiently,” the release says.
