Hungary’s Guest of Honor at China’s International Fair for Investment and Trade

Hungary is the guest of honor at this year’s China International Fair for Investment and Trade, taking place in Xiamen Oct-8-11. During his visit to Budapest earlier this year, President Xi Jinping had invited Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to attend the trade fair. The State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Levente Magyar said that the location of Xiamen in the province Fujian is of particular importance because it is the source of the majority of Chinese foreign investment.

Hungary is the first European country to sign a Belt and Road cooperation document with China. China investments in Hungary are 58% of total foreign direct investments. During his recent visit to Italy, Prime Minister Orbán criticized the EU policy of building an economic block against China. “That is not our interest. Our interest is to cooperate with the West, the U.S.A., and with the East, China and even Russia after the war,” Orbán said at the Ambrosetti Forum on Sept. 5.
