The 14th BRICS Security Meeting in St. Petersburg of high-level representatives responsible for security matters in their countries, saw two days of intense discussion and many bilateral meetings among the attendees. While President Vladimir Putin didn’t attend in person, he engaged in several meetings with security officials from BRICS countries, chief among them Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi (see separate report), India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Kumar Doval, and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Ahmadian, among others.
Aside from his meeting with Putin, Wang Yi also met with India’s Ajit Doval, in which discussion was to have focused on the difficult border conflict between the world’s two largest nations, and how to ensure peace along their Line of Actual Control (LAC). The lack of any agreement on this issue is an obstacle to improving Sino-Indian collaboration as important BRICS partners.
