That the Biden administration is giving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu no reason to back down on his plans for genocide is shown by a meeting that took place at the Pentagon on Sept. 25 between the acting undersecretary of defense for policy Amanda Dory, and Eyal Zamir, the director general of the Israeli Ministry of Defense. “A/USDP Dory reinforced the Administration’s enduring support for Israel’s security. She and DG Zamir discussed the range of threats faced by Israel and the importance of pursuing diplomatic solutions essential for lasting security,” the Pentagon readout reported. “DG Zamir thanked A/USDP Dory for the support provided by the United States. The leaders exchanged views on Israel’s ongoing operations against Hamas and Lebanese Hezballah, the need to release all hostages in Gaza immediately, and the imperative to minimize harm to civilians in conflict zones.”

According to the Israeli side, Israel secured an $8.7 billion package of military support to, as the Times of Israel put it, support its ongoing military efforts and to maintain a qualitative military edge in the region. The package includes $3.5 billion for essential wartime procurement, which has already been received and earmarked for critical military purchases, and $5.2 billion designated for air defense systems including the Iron Dome anti-missile system, David’s Sling, and an advanced laser system.
